Winter's knocking on the door!

What's up blog?

I've been a lazy, lazy updater. Shame on me.

The snowflakes are about to drop and every skier gets excited even when a frosted car window appears. IT'S nearly here!

Here's a clip of me trying some doubles in Nurmes(a waterramping MEGA-center in the eastern Finland) made by Aarni Toiviainen. Enjoy and have a nice pre-pre-pre-season chillout!

Season's over now!

Hello Blog!

The season 08-09 is now officially over, at least for me. It was a sick season filled with filming and some competitions. Some small injuries shadowed my way at times but I managed to overcome them within a short amount of time. Now I'm looking for some rest both my body and mind. I'm really looking forward for the premiere of our movie 'Face Shot'. My next skiing is taking place in June.

Currently, I'm studying for some universities' entrance exams. Wish me luck!!!

I'll keep you updated on what's going on in my life although it's not winter anymore!

KBRCRW SESSIONS

Kakkaa

We just got to Ruka from a resort called Pyhä, where we had the sickest kicker sessions. Snowboarders were throwing down double corks and switch double backflips...!

Now we're looking at some dope kickers and urban features that are gonna be sick if they work out.
The weather tomorrow is looking bad so we're trying to fix it by going to the bar.

Stay tuned!

Spring Skiing In The North

Wazzüp?!

Spring is a funny time of the year; soft snow, better weather than usual and good times!
Right now we're in a resort called Ukkohalla(www.hallapark.com). I'm accompanied by filmer Aarni "Aape" Toiviainen and we're enjoying the good weather and approximately 70cm of snow they have here in this part of Finland. Today we tried to get some followcam shots from this really poppy kicker when I was doing a nine and Aape and his camera followed me with an enormous velocity which caused him to overshoot the jump by far. I was scared to death when I heard Aape screaming in the air with pure 'I don't wanna die' attitude. After that episode the clouds rolled in, my ass was sore and it was time to head to the Sauna World right next to the slopes!

Tomorrow we're still gonna be here filming but in the evening we'll head to Ruka for some more shooting. Check back soon for updates from our excitement-packed Lapland roadtrip!

Check out my home resort(crappy!)

Here's an edit from my home resort Laajavuori(the name means Mt. Spread in english). It's a tiny 100 meters high hill with some ice and rails on it! The good thing is that it's located just a stone's throw from my place and I can easily just walk there to do some quick laps!

Smutsig(2005) available now on Vimeo!

Aarni "Aape" Toiviainen had the time and energy to upload Subzero's latest ski film, "Smutsig" on Vimeo! It's kind of nostalgic at least for me to watch it, beacause it reminds me of the 'original' days when the aim was only to have a good session and not to satisfy anyone else but yourself. I think this movie really shows what you can do with zero budget and a bunch of motivated friends. Enjoy!

SPRING PLANS

After attending to matriculation exams at school I went to Andorra for the annual Total Fight Masters Of Freestyle slopestyle event. The comp was sweet and nicely organized and in the end I was standing on the podium with a third place in my pocket! That was exciting.

Now I'm kinda free to do whatever I want, because I have no longer schoolwork to do and there's still plenty of snow in Northern Finland.
Me, Aape(filmer), Pekka, Roope and Janne are going to a resort called Ukkohalla for a few days to shred the epic park there and maybe get some shots for our next movie called "Face Shot". After that the caravan heads more north to rip the famous park of Ruka ski resort. The trip is planned to last from April 13th to April 21st. My plans after that are still wide open so I might just stay in Lapland for a while longer just to ski for myself.
It's already been four years in a row that I've attended to a relaxed springtime comp M.O.F.Y.(Masters Of Ylläs) at the end of April. I'm not sure if I should go this year, but my heart says yes. We'll see!

On Wednesday we had a sick session just 100 meters from my house and today we're going to continue our barbecue/skiing/good times/filming session at the same location. Stay tuned for a nice little edit from our very own spring jib session!

Take Care!

Welcome to my blog, folks!!!

I put up this blogger blog since I found it hard to cover my homepage's(www.oskariraitanen) costs.
It's been a busy but not  an easy season for me. I did some comps, got a couple of podiums so it's been all good in the comp field. My right knee hasn't been feeling that good throughout the season and that's been a bummer at times since I've been forced to limit my performance at comps and filming trips. But currently it's feeling fine and I'm ready for the spring shoots here in Finland!

Our team called "Härmä" attended to Red Bull Whiteout Tallinn 2009-rail comp and here's a small edit I made.

See you!
